There is a simple yet proven practice brought down by Rav Chaim m’Volozhin ztk’l that empowers us to live with strong emuna and acceptance. It is founded on the principle that nothing controls our destiny but G-d. Thus Rav Chaim taught that by repeating the words Ein od Milvado (there is none other than Him) and implanting in our heart there is no other force but G-d; we can break free of any encounter that manipulates our connection with Him.

Thus is the power of emuna and bitachon. Fundamentally, emuna is the constant practice of reminding ourselves how much G-d loves and cares for us even if life is not exactly what we hoped for. Talk to G-d, air out your concerns, you may not be granted your requests but you will certainly gain a tremendous feeling of closeness and feel His loving embrace.

Feel and heal exercise of the day:

Remind yourself today how much G-d loves and cares for you; in fact He loves you like no other!

It’s All Love

Think about it – G-d is watching, caring, protecting, safeguarding and waiting to hear from you at every moment. Rav Tzaddok HaCohen of Lublin ztk’l teaches that a fundamental part of having emuna in G-d is the belief that He is looking out for our ultimate best. It might come out in the form of tough love, but “tough love is also love.”

It is all in the attitude. As we infuse our mind and heart with the understanding that our Creator loves us to no limit, we equip ourselves with the necessary tools to accept all challenges as being for our best. Difficulties should be seen as ‘repairing kits’ that shift our mode of thinking; not as measures to cause us anguish. From here we learn the importance of a positive approach; it is all good, a blessing in disguise.

Feel and heal exercise of the day:

Think about a time when you needed to say ‘no’ in order for the other to experience a ‘yes’ in their life (a better outcome would come by telling them ‘no’). That is the meaning of tough love, for a better result to arise in its place.

What’s Missing

Often we get disappointed when our requests go unanswered. When a person is left with an unsatisfied desire, they naturally fall into a state of worry, frustration and protest. However, what is really causing this negativity to creep into one’s life? A sense of lacking; ‘There’s something missing.’ When we feel a void we erroneously believe that things are not going ‘as they should.’

An important thing to remember is that G-d fulfills all of our desires, all of our true desires, to the degree that is perfectly fit for us. He knows our size and our fit and gives us what we need according to the ‘size’ of our neshama. A person’s real ratzon and desire is directly linked to that which he really needs; what his soul needs.

Feel and heal exercise of the day:

Think to yourself: could it be that what you currently want is not good for you or can ultimately lead to a greater challenge?

Desires, desires…

‘Ein k’Ahmcha Yisrael’ – Ahm Yisrael is holy. On the tip of most Jewish tongues, regardless of their Torah observance, or how difficult one’s situation is, the words ‘Baruch Hashem’ is found, words that profess gratitude and emuna. In this merit, Ahm Yisrael experiences bitachon and happiness and are able to cope with life’s challenges.

Emuna refers to trusting in Hashem’s ability to help and guide us through every circumstance; it does not mean that G-d will deliver what we desire. It is important to understand this well; emuna is belief in G-d’s intimate interaction in our lives however not that G-d will fulfill our wants.

Feel and heal exercise of the day:

Think to yourself “what might be a possible ‘G-dly’ reason for not ‘receiving’ one of my desires that I have been praying for.” Allow yourself to expand your vision on seeing how this may be a positive delay.

The G-dly Master Plan

Accepting and celebrating Plan B teaches us a great emuna lesson. It also helps us work on our middah of hod, submission which is one of the sefirot and G-dly manifestations. Adjusting our expectations and plans takes flexibility, the ability to ‘go with the flow’ of G-d’s will in spite of it being different from our own intentions.

We can still choose to sing along to the new tune, no matter how different from our old one. And then to use an ayin tov, a good eye to see our new tune as perfectly suited to us! Whether it appears to us that life is following plan A, B or Z, ultimately all is ratzon Hashem, the will of G-d and all follows His master plan.

Feel and heal exercise of the day:

Contemplate the idea that everything is from G-d and G-d is everything. No matter which direction you’re facing, it is still the way G-d wants you to go!

What’s the Plan?

Often, life does not go according to plan A. Indeed, G-d appeared to have had an ‘original plan A’ – that is, for Adam HaRishon to live in Gan Eden and for His name to be known to all. Yet because of Adam’s sin, the world is now living according to plan B (as it appears to us). Yet, this world of Plan B is still called ‘tov me’od (very good)’ as written in Sefer Bereishis (1:31).

When plan A fails we may feel lost, sad or frustration, yearning for the illusive plan A. However, instead we can transform our yearning and excitement for plan A and apply it to plan B. We can strive to accept plan B and view it as tov me’od, just as G-d wants it be right now.

Feel and heal exercise of the day:

The ‘could have’s’ and ‘should have’s’ can occupy a good part of our life. But think about it, if it ‘could have’ and ‘should have’ then it ‘would have!’ That pretty much sums up plan A vs. plan B.

Talk it over

The Higher Heavenly court asks each of us an interesting question: “Did you appoint regular times for learning Torah?” One lesson we can extract from this question is the importance of regular, consistent practice as opposed to sporadic, albeit heartfelt prayers. Although it is a beneficial and admirable to ‘run’ to G-d and talk over our deepest emotions and concerns the long-term benefits of hitbodedut is achieved best via everyday ‘ordinary’ talk.

Every hitbodedut session is a personal encounter with our Creator. Practiced on a regular basis, hitbodedut forges a deep connection with G-d that cannot be severed easily. It is called “a lofty level greater than all” Rebbe Nachman ztk’l teaches. Consistency, routine and repetition work best, even at times when it appears there is nothing special to discuss.

Feel and heal exercise of the day:

Talk it over and speak it out… what’s on your mind today? Talk it out…

Challenges

Hashem deliberately creates a lacking or absence in our lives to encourage us to turn to Him and connect with Him; to remind us why we are here. This lack or need is put into our life out of His kindness and mercy, knowing that the maximum pleasure we can obtain in this world is by connecting with Him. It is our choice to connect on a regular basis or merely when we are lacking, the idea is to interact with life knowing G-d is with us always. The challenges are there to impel us in His direction.

Feel and heal exercise of the day:

Contemplate ‘G-d’s desire’ to want us, His creation, to have a relationship with Him. Through our trials and tribulations we are meant to reach out and remember that we are not alone!

The Big Picture

Picture an ant working tirelessly to move a grain of dirt in front of her so she can move forward. Her vision is blocked from what lies a foot in front of her. Her load is minuscule compared to the mound of earth piled around a tree stump just a few feet in front of her. And she cannot even fathom the fact that there lies a forest 50 feet ahead of her. She sees and focuses only that which is in front of her. Yet, overcoming her individual challenge is crucial to enabling her to reach that forest along with the other ants.

We may not see the ‘big picture’. Yet, we can be rest assured that there is something bigger and greater out there. We must focus on our individual challenges and victories, trusting that by completing our unique soul’s program we are moving towards our final destination. Let’s trust the Divine process. Let’s patiently complete our own mission, overcoming our personal challenges in order to help usher the redemption as it unfolds before our very own eyes B’H.

Place a coin in front of your eye and notice how much your vision is blocked in comparison to the size of the coin. So much of life is hidden from us – we truly only see a piece of the puzzle.

The Shomer Emunim ztk’l teaches that this generation has the opportunity to rectify all past misdeeds of all of past lives since the beginning of time. As it is always darkest before the dawn, our generation is faced with intense hardships and temptations. Yet, by overcoming such challenges, we will be able to uplift all things past and welcome the redemption.

There is an entire Divine master plan which we are not privy to see. In our finiteness as humans, we see only countless points and elements with no common ground. However, each separate minute element is vital to the overall picture.

Step out of the closed space you are in and glance at the sky. Glance from right to left and view the vastness of the world from your viewpoint. Internalize that life is infinite – way beyond what we can see.
