Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Shalom Pincas Elisha ben Miriam Shaindel. May Hashem shower him with yeshuot and nechamot, a complete healing refuat hanefesh and refuat haguf among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

The foundation of so many frustrations in life stems from our conscious and many times unconscious feeling that we know better; we can re-write our lives so that it flows with greater ease. Do we live our lives as an ‘employer’ (boss mentality) or ‘employee’ (worker mentality) in this world?  There is a world of a difference in the two.

Let’s be honest.  If we assume that we know better, life will be lived as a rebellious battle against Hashem.  And we won’t win!  We are partners in this world to repair it; we do not own it.  Consequently the only pathway to inner composure and calm is to involve our ‘Partner’ in our lives.  Let us change our perception of seeing Hashem as chas v’Shalom doing things to us and view them as happening for us (not as a punishment but as a warning call saving us from harm).

A fundamental Emuna teaching is that Hashem ‘talks’ to us through the circumstance and people in our lives.  If something is not going right, we must view it as a message from our ‘Partner’ telling us that we are not on track in our ‘business’ called life. What is the business of life? Staying on track towards our soul rectification which we cannot attain unless we get Hashem involved.

Every opportunity, person and experience is here to communicate how ‘well’ we are scoring and staying on track.  Hashem has tailor designed our lives to ‘train’ us and get us to work on repairing our lives.  We have more strength to cope with the hardships than we think.   Each incident carries us one step higher on the spiritual ladder.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Chayeh Gittel bat Raizel Maryam. May Hashem shower her with a complete healing among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

What is Emuna? To paraphrase Sefer Hachinuch, Mitzva 25- It is the belief that the world has only One G-d and it is through His power and desire that everything ever was, is and will come to exist. Emuna is the foundation of Judaism. Emuna is believing in this fundamental truth as outlined in the Torah and that anything else is simply impossible. This teaching relates to Hashem’s greatness and goodness and our lack of strength and understanding to grasp all matters. From where do we attain our Emuna? R’ Hirsch ztk’l teaches that emuna is the trust that develops from our experience with Hashem’s power and reliability. It is expressed through our willingness to allow our lives to be directed and developed in accordance to His will.

The RamBam ztk’l outlines the thirteen principles of emuna as follows:

1) We must believe that any part of existence is impossible without the existence of our Creator. Yet, the Creator requires nothing for His existence.
2) There is only One G-d. Nothing in the universe can be compared to His Oneness.
3) G-d has no body or physical aspect
4) G-d has always been in existence and always will be. He is eternal.
5) There is no power besides G-d whom it is fitting to serve.
6) G-d bestows prophecy to those who follow all of the Torah commandments and merit to perfect their personal attributes.
7) The prophecy of Moshe was greater than any other prophecy before or since.
8) Belief that the entire Torah is true and completely accurate as dictated to Moshe by G-d.
9) Since the entire Torah comes from G-d, one may not add to it or take away from it.
10) G-d is aware of all of our actions.
11) There is reward and punishment for our actions.
12) Mashiach ben Dovid can come at any time and he will be a greater king than any other human king.
13) At the proper time, there will be a revival of the dead for those righteous individuals who deserve it.

From tomorrow we will further explore each principle.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Ayala bat Ruth the beautiful 10 year old girl badly burned this week when a Molotov was thrown at the car she was driving in. May Hashem shower her with a complete healing, refuat hanefesh v’refuat haguf among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’rachamim, b’karov, Amen.

There is a great parable that illustrates the importance of trusting only in Hashem and none other.

There once was a man who became fatally ill. The doctors lost all hope yet the man sent for his Rav to advise him of a cure. The Rav advised that he take seven chickens and boil them for seven days to the point where it condenses the liquid to fit into a spoon.

As he poured the liquid into the spoon and was about to drink, a spider fell into it rendering it unfit to drink. His family was horror-struck and anticipated his death to come shortly after. Yet, he began to recover and in a few weeks was completely healed.

When he was asked how he recovered he said, “When I realized that I couldn’t drink the liquid and that all means of healing were taken from me, I turned to Hashem and cried from the depths of my heart to send me a complete healing. It is the true Healer Who healed me.” When we remove all faith placed with people, cures and solutions to ease our difficulties and in its place rely purely and simply on Hashem Yitborach, we merit His goodness.

Elevated emuna translates into action; our thoughts, speech and actions are profoundly affected by our emuna. Bitachon is the bridge between that which we know and that which we feel and eventually impacts that which we do. When we remove all faith in ‘natural means’ we essentially unclog the pipeline of Divine goodness and enable it to flow freely into our lives.

Do You Smell the Roses?

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Esther bat Miriam just recently diagnosed with ALS. May Hashem shower her with a complete healing refuat hanefesh v’refuat haguf  among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

“Ba’erev Yaleen Bechi, vla’boker rina…. (In the evening one lies down weeping, but with dawn – a cry of ecstasy {delight})”, Tehillim 30:6

Our lives are likened to a roller-coaster ride; up, down and all around. When we are up, in a positive mindset, we are able to accept even the bitter moments with more ease, patience and calmness.  You simply accept.

The opposite is true as well. When we feel down we smell the roses but are troubled by the thorns. It puts a damper on our ability to enjoy their fragrance and may even stop us from taking one more ‘whiff’ of their blossoming scent. Therefore, we must always strive to submerge ourselves with optimism. When we think rosy… all is rosy; even if the thorns stand in our way.

When Dovid HaMelech ztk’l describes our evenings filled with tears, he is suggesting the negative times when we are in despair. “But with dawn” points to the times of a positive outlook, the moments when we can see beyond the horizon, see everything in a confident light and this moves us to cry tears of joy.

The lesson to take home: no matter what, we should force ourselves to focus on the roses in every situation and literally fight to stay in a positive thinking mode; with emuna in Hashem, this is doable. The impact of our mindset is more powerful than we can imagine.

It shines light on the saying, “Life is all about perception; not about circumstances.”

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of the beautiful neshamot who were injured in last week’s horrific terror attack. May we uplift this time of unity and bring merits to Klal Yisrael by praying for their complete recovery and safety of all Jews around the world, Amen.

One of the main reasons why we get ‘burnt out’ is due to a tear in the link with the Source of life. The G-dliness within me is the contact point to the Infinite Source of life itself. If only we could tap into this eternal state, we would never be burnt out.

Let us think of doing Hashem’s will as if we are tuning into the Divine frequency on a radio that broadcasts life. I can ‘hear’ Hashem. His messages come in clearer than before. I feel like I am ‘walking with Hashem.’ In such a state, I am aligned with the path Hashem has set before me. Based on what I act and choose; Hashem reacts and guides. This is the basis of a relationship with Borei Olam. The events of my life are set to elevate my soul and bring out my fullest potential based on how I exercise my free will.

Living with such a tight bond envelops us with inner strength and carries us through the roller coaster of life. Our motive in building an unshakable relationship with Hashem should center on the desire to attain knowledge, da’at, that all is from Hashem.

All this brings to light the most powerful experience of all. We have the ability to bring Hashem’s presence into the world. A crucial role we should embrace proudly as no one else can fulfill what each and every one of us can do, in our own unique way.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated and sponsored L’iluy nishmat Rav Zev Shimshon ben Yaakov Tuvie Halevi zt”l.  May his neshama eternally rest and bask in the Divine radiance of the Shechinah HaKedosha among all of the tsaddikim who have departed from this world, Amen.

If you wish to sponsor and dedicate a daily dose of emuna, please contact us.

Emuna is the faith that all You do is good for us. That You are infinitely wiser than us, and understand better than we what we must go through in life to reveal our strengths and actualize our potentials.

Emuna helps us when we look back at the trials of our lives.

Emuna helps us deal with the past. To come to terms with the difficulties and failures, hardships and the blows, that life showers on us. It is the faith in knowing it was all for the best. That for some reason beyond our comprehension it had to be this way.

But Bitachon assists us with the present and the future. It is my uncalculated trust, the warmth all around me, right now, at this moment, because You are with me. It is the confidence that You will provide only good things for me in the future because You are the ultimate source of good.

It is jumping from the cliff, while knowing that the landing will be soft, because Your arms will be carrying me.  It is the conviction that You will chase away all of life’s monsters. That you are there with me in each and every new venture.

While Emuna confronts the pain of my past falls, Bitachon is the confidence that enables me to attempt to take that next step forward.

The Greatest Acceptance

This past week’s parsha of Parah Adumah is the embodiment of emuna. The laws of the red heifer are incomprehensible to the human mind. We cannot understand everything in life. We are probed with questions, confusion, uncertainties – the Parah Adumah is a reminder of how limited our minds are.

What advice does the Torah offer in such cases where even Shlomo HaMelech ztk’l , the wisest of all men, could not grasp this Torah teaching? Emuna Temima (simple unadulterated loyalty and faithfulness to the Torah’s infinite wisdom, no matter how incomprehensible they may be!). There are endless events and ideas in this world that we will not be able to grasp. The only notion we need to remain faithful to is that Hashem is running the universe perfectly; without any glitches!

Oh, how much we plan; dotting our ‘I’s’ and crossing our ‘T’s’, going through the logical process. Nonetheless, the Ultimate Designer and Master Planner knows better. The list of questions; why’s and what’s just seems to get longer with no ‘Heavenly loudspeaker’ announcing any resolution for them.

To those who wish to live a life of emuna- they hear the answers. To name a few of the possible responses: ‘It is not the right time’, ‘Be patient’, ‘The delay is necessary’ and even ‘No, I can’t give that to you’ – to name a few.

In life there are delays and denials necessary to perfectly carve our eternal future life. Accepting reality at times for what it is is the top code of living a healthy balanced life. As the Kli Yakar ztk’l teaches in his commentary on Shmot (25:10), “The purpose of knowledge is to know that we don’t know.”

We do not know and do not understand. This is the greatest acceptance of them all!

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Daphne Shani bat Nurit a young girl with cancer.  May Hashem shower her with His eternal compassion and may she merit a complete healing b’riut hanefesh v’b’riut haguf amongst all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated l’iluy nishmat my Safta Nelly bat Aaron z’l. May her neshama bask in the Divine radiance of the Shechina together with all of the tzaddikim who have departed from this world, Amen. (To read more about how special my grandmother was, read the Mishpacha Magazine article posted on our website: CLICK HERE)

A person has to struggle in this world so that he recognize that it is Hashem Who is at the center of his universe. It is Hashem who intimately supervises everything and every part of this creation. We are completely dependent upon Him.

However, it isn’t enough for us to merely know this intellectually; it needs to be weaved into our inherent existence and dictate our thoughts, speech and actions. In order to attain this level of knowing and more importantly to reach this feeling – requires a change of perspective.

When is it easiest to ingrain this realization? When we are forced to cry out to Hashem for help, then it moves from theory in the mind to hard core emotion. That is when we ‘get it’! When we don’t know how we are going to get through the next pile of bills and are feeling helpless and hopeless, then we ‘scream out’ to Hashem and somehow, someway, it works out. Consequently, our emuna has been ‘upped’ a couple of notches and we are enveloped in Hashem’s warm embrace.

Surely, the solution will make its way somehow or another into our lives with or without us connecting to Hashem. However, then we will have lost an opportunity to strengthen our emuna and acquire ‘G-dly’ strength to make it through the next c’v hardship.
Our ‘difficulties’ aren’t hindrances quite the contrary they facilitate our spiritual growth. They help us clearly understand how much Hashem is involved in our lives, how much He really cares and how much we are dependent upon Him.

Through our lacking we can recognize that we are creations dependent upon our Creator.

From one of our readers:
There is a family that I know personally who made aliyah a few years ago and has a very hard time making ends meet. Somehow, they survive and their 6 children have food. I’m not sure how….
Today, while we wait for ‘Our 3 Boys’ to come home safe and sound to their families, I’m asking that you find it in your hearts to unify as one and give any amount of money toward the eldest son’s bar mitzvah as a zechut for the safe return of Eyal Yifrah, Gilad Sha’ar and Naftali Frenkel.

My goal is to raise $4,000. I have a tzedaka organization that is willing to give tax receipts for your donations. Please email me if you would like to help in this huge mitzvah!

The Chief Rabbi of England, Rabbi Lord Sacks shlit’a told a story of a Rav who lived through the horrors of the holocaust. As a result of the war, he lost his entire family, including his wife and many children, r”l. Later in life he remarried and had more children, B’H. He was renowned in his community for being a very joyful soul. People asked him how he could rebuild his life with such Simchat Hachaim, and whether he had any questions about his tragedy.

His response was inspiring, simple and clear. He said that he has questions and knows there are answers to all of them. He continued to say that so long as he is here in this lowly world he cannot grasp the answer, for it is only understood in the upper realms. So long as he is alive in this world he said that he realizes that he has a task to fulfill and must complete it. Therefore, if he had to choose, he would rather stay in this world and work towards fulfilling his mission and remain with questions, then depart from this world and be given all of the answers.

After 120 years there will be no answers…. precisely because then in the next World there will be no questions! That IS the answer to all of our questions.

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Rabbanit Rut bat Ahuva.  May Hashem shower her with a complete healing b’riut hanefesh v’briut haguf amongst all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

Don’t forget to say the tefillah of the Shlah HaKadosh today until sunset: Click Here to read

As we learned in yesterday’s daily dose every incident in life is intimately supervised by Hashem Yitborach in the most meticulous manner. Hashem turns events around according to our soul’s needs in order for us to achieve complete soul rectification. We can live our entire lives without paying attention that Hashem is guiding every step of our life ‘behind the scenes’.  A person can see his life as a chain of happenstance and ‘natural’ outcomes not associating Hashem with any of them.

Emuna teaches us to live life awake and aware of Hashem’s intimate presence; never forgetting for a moment Who created and continues to create it all.  It teaches us to live mindful and to understand that Hashem speaks to us through the circumstances of our lives.  We are put through challenges in order to bring forth into actuality that which is hidden as potential.  Just as a coach strengthens the one he is training and increasing his endurance by raising the ‘bar’ and building up the challenges – so Borei Olam does with us.

Hashem puts us through many different situations, all measured, all finely focused for our growth. Some are tests of endurance, some are tests of faith, and some are tests of patience, but each one is custom-designed for our growth.  Everything is decreed by Hashem, every ounce of suffering, every annoyance, every mosquito bite, every time we have to wait in line and forget our keys.  It is all decided, defined and directed only by Hashem.

It is all from Hashem!
