IN 3 minutes our hearts are stirred to BRING BACK OUR BOYS!!! In this emotional clip:

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the safe return, in full health, strength in body and soul of our three boys being held in captivity. In the zechut of Klal Yisrael’s Achdut and Tefillot Ana Hashem Al Tisheevaynu Raikam Lefanecha. May Yaakov Naftali ben Rachel Devorah, Gilad Michael ben Bat Galim and Eyal ben Iris Teshurah  come home NOW and continue to unite us as One serving Hashem only in simchas, Amen.

There is a story told about the Gaon HaRav Chaim m’Sanz ztk’l.  After his son passed away he was asked how he bears the tremendous suffering and pain of loosing a child.  His answer was given via a parable:  Let’s imagine for a moment you are sitting comfortably on a chair when suddenly you receive a hard slap on your back. Immediately you turn around to see who did it.

If you turn around and notice a stranger behind you that you have never seen before chances are you will implode or explode with anger towards him.  However, if you recognize that person to be your father and realize that it was a friendly smack, you are more likely to be acceptable and receive him with a warm glow.

The Gaon continued to say that there is a ‘ meaningless smack’ and there is a ‘smack of love’.  I received a harsh and painful smack when I lost my son.  However when I turned around to see who did it I saw that it was from HaKadosh Baruch Hu who I love more than anyone or anything in the world.  His love for me is greater than His love for anyone in the world.  Therefore I am able to cope with it the way that I do.

Hashem loves us and is guiding us to a world of perfection… forever. B’H may we merit to see only revealed good, Amen.

Hashem is ‘Planted’

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the iluy neshmat of Ziva bat Aron z’l.  May her neshama bask in the Divine radiance amongst all of the tzaddikim who have departed from this world, Amen.

In Sefer Bereishis we learn about Yaakov Avinu’s wondrous dream as he leaves Beersheba for Haran. He sees a ladder standing firmly on the ground, reaching upward to the heavens. Angels are going up and down “v’hinei Hashem Nitzav alav (Behold, Hashem is standing above him)”.

The Izhbitzer Rebbe ztk”l explained that there are two words that can be used for standing. One is omed, which simply means standing there, and the other is nitzav, which implies being planted in place. A human being is an omed. He always has the choice to stay in one place or move away. A nitzav has no such choice; it is planted in its place like a stone.

By using the expression of nitzav, Hashem was telling Yaakov a beautiful message, “Dear child, I have no choice but to be with you.” Hashem wanted us to realize that no matter what, no matter where, He would always be planted and bonded with us. Hashem’s connection with us is forever, something that can never be moved nor shifted. We may ascend and descend the ladder to Heaven, sometimes rising and sometimes falling, but Hashem will always be planted above us and within us. No matter where we are, because we are Hashem’s children, He will be with us.

What a powerful message! It gives one a sense of tranquility despite the world’s thunderous storms.

Questions?

The Chief Rabbi of England, Rabbi Lord Sacks shlit’a told a story of a Rav who lived through the horrors of the holocaust. As a result of the war, he lost his entire family, including his wife and many children, r”l. Later in life he remarried and had more children, B’H. He was renowned in his community for being a very joyful soul. People asked him how he could rebuild his life with such Simchat Hachaim, and whether he had any questions about his tragedy.

His response was inspiring, simple and clear. He said that he has questions and knows there are answers to all of them. He continued to say that so long as he is here in this lowly world he cannot grasp the answer, for it is only understood in the upper realms. So long as he is alive in this world he said that he realizes that he has a task to fulfill and must complete it. Therefore, if he had to choose, he would rather stay in this world and work towards fulfilling his mission and remain with questions, then depart from this world and be given all of the answers.

After 120 years there will be no answers…. precisely because then in the next World there will be no questions! That IS the answer to all of our questions.

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the complete healing and good news report for Chaya bat Baya.  She is going in for testing today and will find out in 10 days where her health is standing after her treatments.  B’H may the doctors see nothing and find nothing.  Please daven for her for the next 10+ days amongst all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering – may everyone merit a refuah shleimah b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

Divine providence is part of every activity in life; including how well we sleep.  I may put my head down to rest with the hope to calm my spirits when suddenly…. v’rum v’rum someone nearby has just decided to turn on their lawn mower!!  Just fifteen minutes of menuchat hanefesh (inner peace) can turn into fifteen minutes of asking, “Why now… why do it now?!”

Why is it that the neighbors upstairs (for those who live in apartment buildings) decide to move their furniture around 11:00 pm when I am trying to sleep?  It sounds no less than the ceiling caving in.  Why does the neighbor need to drill a hole in the wall and a ‘hole in my head’ when I am trying to rest after such a long tiring day?  Oy, is this a test of patience?!

Maybe it’s not the neighbor. Maybe I just toss and turn and can’t sleep at night while distressing thoughts take charge of my mind and heart.  How will I function tomorrow with a smile?

My answer lies in internalizing the fact that this is hashgacha pratis, a result brought about directly through Divine intervention. What good will it do for me to not get enough rest?  What’s the purpose?  This is a test.  You are about to undergo a test.

Let us take hold of these questions and lift our eyes upward, “Ribbono Shel Olam.  This is genuine yissurim (suffering) for me.  Please may it be Your will that it serve as a kappara (atonement).   I accept this sorrow with emuna and love. Better this than something else.”

What inner strength and emuna to reach this exalted level of seeing Hashem in my sleep disturbances.  What a calming effect it will have on my nerves and potentially brewed anger.  Ashreinu (happy is he!) for striving to ascend to this level of emuna and see Hashem in one of those places we have never done before!

Let’s continue where we left off yesterday. So, how do we stop deluding ourselves into believing that our efforts affect the outcome when it comes to our material pursuits? How do we remember that the results are all from Hashem?

The Ba’ala Emuna (person who lives with emuna) should strive to constantly implant emuna ideas in his heart every moment of the day. For instance, if she is on the way to purchasing an item, she could remind herself that “I know that the item has already been chosen for me by Hashem. No matter what I do or think it won’t make an iota of a difference!”  With this mindset, she is less likely to search extensively or overdo her hishtadlut.

However, our yetzer hara might convince us that it is sensible to look for furniture at more than one place. Hashem wants us to live in this world according to its natural ways. It takes emuna to remember that Hashem decides whether our purchase is a bargain and the state of our finances on Rosh Hashana.

HaKadosh Baruch Hu “Tzaddik Yivchahn (tests the righteous ones)”. The pathway to ascend the spiritual ladder is littered with emuna tests. Even if we pass the first emuna test and do not overdo our hishtadlut, Hashem might test us in another way. For instance, if we just completed a purchase for a new table and chair set, we may then visit a friend who has also purchased a luxurious table set. We may innocently ask, “How much did you pay?” and hear that it was , “2,000 shekels….” . What! That is, the same amount that I paid for lesser quality!

Realizing we overpaid and lost a considerable sum of money, we may find ourselves huffing and puffing, distraught over the fact that we failed to find the same bargain. But our real failure is not monetary – it is a failure to have sufficiently imparted emuna into our hearts. We should have stayed calm and accepting, realizing that it is all from Hashem! In actuality, there is no reason for us to become frustrated over ‘losses or feel ‘cheated’. This is what was meant to be. We could have searched and searched until my eyes turned pink it would not have made a difference if Hashem willed the results to be any other way!

However, we must also constantly remind ourselves that we are not angels. Rather, we are all a work in progress. Often we may forget this lesson, or remember it after already ‘failing’ our emuna challenge. However, the more often we strengthen our emuna muscles each day by reminding ourselves that Hashem is in control, the quicker we will ‘bounce back’ without feeling distressed over the situation. This process raises us higher on our path to emuna shleimah (complete and total trust in Hashem!).

Material and Spiritual Hishtadlut

There is a notable difference between hishtadlut (making a concerted effort) towards spiritual pursuits and material aspirations. Let’s explore this.

In the sefer Chovot Halevavot in the chapter Gate of Trust we are taught that we are instructed to believe in Hashem’s Divine providence in both spiritual and material matters.   However there is a profound difference in the amount of effort we are to invest in both areas of life. When aspiring towards material goals there should be a limit on how much time and effort we are to invest in attaining them since the results are entirely in Hashem’s hands and are not dependent on how much we do.  Yet, in spiritual pursuits the desire and effort is within man’s free will – it is our choice how much time and effort we wish to invest in climbing the spiritual ladder.

For example, if I wish to purchase a table and chair set I am required to act within the realm of  ‘natural law’ which encourages me to look for a good deal and spend my money wisely.  However, my heart will ‘lie’ to me and ‘tell’ me that the more I research, the better deal I’ll get.  This comes as a result of the admixture of truth and lie that emerged from the sin of Adam Harishon.  We are constantly being fed that our efforts do in fact have an impact on the outcome.  This can be proven false by answering this simple question: “Does Hashem need our help to bring to fruition His Heavenly decrees?  Does He need us to look for a job in order to get us a job?”

We act according to the natural way of the world because this is what we are told to do to mask the miracle of Hashem’s intervention.  What is the limit on how much to invest in material pursuits? There are two guidelines:

1) Enough to ‘hide’ the miracle and create the appearance of natural doing

2) In accordance to our emuna. The more emuna, the less effort – the less emuna, the more effort.

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Yaakov Yohonatan Levi ben Chaiya.  May Hashem shower him with rachamei Shamayim and he merit a complete healing b’riut hanefesh v’b’riut haguf amongst all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

It is Sivan we are finally ready to meet our groom, HaKadosh Baruch Hu.

Our souls have ripened, they have grown wide and deep during the weeks of the Omer; we have traveled far and await the loving embrace of Hashem. The flowers are blooming, the fish are retreating to deeper waters, the birds songs envelop the air – we have finally arrived at this moment.  Our soul like a flower has opened up to receiving Hashem’s Divine law and love.

On Shavuot we go back to eating the food we ate when we emerged into this world – milk.

We were innocent then only desiring tender loving care – a Motherly and Fatherly love and hug.  Hashem – You know me better than any other, for I am made from a spark of You.  Help me break free from all that entangles me so I may once again stand closely with You. Dress me in Your light and surround me by Your roses.

I am back in the desert awaiting to step under our wedding canopy together with my brethren… Here we meet once again.  This year I have revealed more of myself to me, I have uncovered so much which has pulled me behind.  Let us renew our vows.  I stand with You.  I firmly stand ready to enter our covenant with new resolve.

You are my beloved and I give myself to You in faithfulness!

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Asher Yekutiel ben Chana Bayla.  He is a teenage boy recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.  Hashem please shower Your compassion onto Asher Yekutiel ben Chana Bayla amongst all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov v’b’rachamim, Amen.

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Rabbanit Rut bat Ahuva.  May Hashem shower her with a complete healing b’riut hanefesh v’briut haguf amongst all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

Don’t forget to say the tefillah of the Shlah HaKadosh today until sunset: Click Here to read

As we learned in yesterday’s daily dose every incident in life is intimately supervised by Hashem Yitborach in the most meticulous manner. Hashem turns events around according to our soul’s needs in order for us to achieve complete soul rectification. We can live our entire lives without paying attention that Hashem is guiding every step of our life ‘behind the scenes’.  A person can see his life as a chain of happenstance and ‘natural’ outcomes not associating Hashem with any of them.

Emuna teaches us to live life awake and aware of Hashem’s intimate presence; never forgetting for a moment Who created and continues to create it all.  It teaches us to live mindful and to understand that Hashem speaks to us through the circumstances of our lives.  We are put through challenges in order to bring forth into actuality that which is hidden as potential.  Just as a coach strengthens the one he is training and increasing his endurance by raising the ‘bar’ and building up the challenges – so Borei Olam does with us.

Hashem puts us through many different situations, all measured, all finely focused for our growth. Some are tests of endurance, some are tests of faith, and some are tests of patience, but each one is custom-designed for our growth.  Everything is decreed by Hashem, every ounce of suffering, every annoyance, every mosquito bite, every time we have to wait in line and forget our keys.  It is all decided, defined and directed only by Hashem.

It is all from Hashem!

Where are those keys?

Today, 28th of Iyar is the yahrtzeit of Shmuel HaNavi.  Some say it is tomorrow the 29th of Iyar.  Just as Channah HaTzaddika prayed for a child after being barren for many years, so should we mother’s pray, beg and plead with Hashem to shower those Jewish Mothers who still await having their own children to merit getting pregnant soon b’mazal tov, as well as beseech Hashem to enable us to bring up our children b’nachat, b’simcha, b’kalut (with ease), b’mehteekut (in sweetness) and b’Siyatta D’shmaya (with Heavenly assistance), Amen.

Don’t forget to recite the prayer of the Shlah HaKadosh ztk’l tomorrow up until sunset tomorrow night for bringing up children b’nachat. Can be found HERE

Tzaddik B’Emunato Yichyeh – A righteous man lives by his Emuna. Mankind wishes to strive upward and spiritually elevate him/herself always.  The Navi Chavakuk ztk’l explains in three words how to attain it; righteousness comes through living with Emuna. Emuna should be interwoven into our thoughts, speech and deeds under every and all circumstances.   Emuna needs to be sewn into the fabric of life. The following real life scenarios will help bring clarity on how to apply emuna into ‘rountine’ incidents that many of us have experienced.

It is a hot day.  We make the effort and travel to a public office to straighten out some errands.  The line is long, people are impatient, we giggle in our place awaiting our turn to come.  It finally arrives. We approach the clerk and are told that we are missing an important document and without it we cannot complete the process.  How much Emuna is needed right then and there to accept this circumstance with love?

You are in a rush and must leave NoW!  Oy, where are those keys? I know I put them here…. What agony… Who is to blame?  Me, someone else?

In Mishlei (19:21) Shlomo HaMelech ztk’l teaches, “Many thoughts are in man’s heart, but the counsel of Hashem – only it will prevail.” What is the difference between a machshava (thought) and eitza (counsel)?  Thoughts are simply that – thoughts of a final objective.  Yet counsel is the outcome itself.  The most carefully laid-out plans will not come to fruition if not in accordance to Hashem’s will.  As my Safta a’h used to say:  “You can stand on your eyelashes…” it simply won’t be if Hashem doesn’t will for it to be.

Remember that next time you are in line or misplace your keys…

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Moshe ben Tirtza. He is a 26 year old yeshiva bachur who was involved in a serious car accident a year and a half ago when a car rammed into him in Brooklyn and sped off. He suffered severe head injuries and his organs were crushed.  You can read more about it on the link and find out how you can help:  http://t.ymlp265.net/bsmanaujymwavaueqadaeujqj/click.php.

May Hashem send him a complete healing in the zechut of Chodesh Iyar b’riut hanefesh v’briut haguf amongst all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

Frozen Emuna

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the hatzlocha of our daughter Shani on the occasion of her 23rd birthday. May Hashem enlighten her path in Torah, mitzvot and ma’asim tovim and guide her to fulfill her task in life with a happy heart and emuna filled eyes, Amen.

The Chofetz Chaim ztk’l teaches a parable that clarifies the understanding of the importance of constant review and repetition of emuna learning.

It is likened to a man who draws water from a well on a freezing 20 degrees below zero winter day.  He stores the bucket of water outside until he wishes to use it. However to his amazement after a few hours he finds the water frozen solid.  The amount of work now required by him to enjoy some of the water is tremendous; he will have to chisel his way to enjoy but a few drops.

However if he was wise he would have made sure to check on the water every so often.  As a thin layer of ice would begin to form on top he would have simply had to give it a quick stir in order for it to break apart and prevent the formation of a solid block of ice.

We take an insightful teaching from this analogy as this resembles our avodah when it comes to learning emuna.  Emuna requires constant review, evaluation and integration in our lives or else it will freeze and become difficult to access.  The world outside is cold and numbs our emuna senses.

Therefore we must constant dip ourselves into the warm and loving study of emuna to keep our souls well nourished with the ‘water’ it so desperately needs to drink!
