During the course of our lives, we all traverse paths of darkness (where we feel alone or treated unfairly by others and Hashem, chas v’Shalom. We eventually grow stronger from those experiences. Every descent is followed by an ascent.

Painful experiences are a result of dinim (judgments). When we suffer, a few things may occur simultaneously. Firstly, our da’at (mental and emotional state) may travel further into exile. Our mind and heart may not accept the concept of ‘Gam zu l’tova (this is also for the best)’. We may be thrown into a state in which we cannot see the bigger picture or the purpose of the hardship.

As a result, we may be left feeling lost, confused and distant from Hashem. We may even sense that we are insignificant and unloved which may make us feel despairing. In this unhappy state it is difficult to give or accept love to ourselves, to others and to HaKadosh Baruch Hu.

Chazal brings an amazing insight as to how to sweeten the judgments and lessen our pain. We must go to the root of our pain and view it through our da’at. That is, we must look at the event again and rationally conclude in our minds that it is somehow and in some way for the best. Then, we must gradually allow our emotions (our heart) to digest this rationale.

In other words, we must ultimately view the event through emuna lenses. Higher consciousness helps us deal with the pain since we now associate it with a rational purpose from a more objective and expansive viewpoint. We no longer feel that we are subjects of happen chance. Through this renewed level of understanding, the dinim can slowly change from bitterness to sweetness.

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Moshe ben Shoshana Rochel a beautiful six year old in remission. Please Hashem may he continue to heal and live a long healthy life filled with Torah, mitzvot and Ma’asim Tovim among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering, Amen.

“Ya’ancha Hashem b’yom tzara yesa’gevcha shem Elokei Yaakov (Hashem will answer you in the day of trouble; the Name of the G-d of Yaakov will raise you on high)” (Tehillim 20:2)

“In the day of trouble” – reflects a time of dire need when all the circumstances point to inevitable disaster. Why Yaakov? He was the Patriarch that suffered more than our other Forefathers, according to the Me’am Loez commentary.

Whoever answered him when he was in need, will answer us as well. The recognition, awareness of and trust in Elokei Yaakov will give us the inner strength that we must have to persevere until help will come at last.

Why does the Torah use the name Yaakov as opposed to Yisrael? The Malbim ztk’l teaches that whenever the name Yaakov is mentioned it refers to the common folk. It also applies to the physical aspect of Yaakov’s personality. Yet when the name Yisrael is used it refers to the Torah scholars and righteous among the Jewish people. Essentially Yisrael represents the spiritual aspect; the eternal existence of the Jewish nation.

This fascinating insight into this passuk in Tehillim comes to highlight that Hashem is embracing every Jew at their time of need. He is with each of us, guiding and caring the ‘average’ person, who stumbles and attempts to improve time and time again. Hashem intimately supervises us in this lowly world no matter how low we might have fallen.

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is sponsored and dedicated l’iluy nishmat Tzvia bat Mordechai a’h.  May her neshama bask in the Divine radiance of the Shechinah HaKedosha together with all of the righteous who have departed from this world, Amen.

It is great to feel beautiful.  Why don’t we always feel beautiful? How do we define beauty? Do we compare ourselves with others and forget what the true meaning of loveliness is?

We see ourselves as imperfect beings. We know we are in this world to work on ourselves and strive towards better. Nevertheless, great splendor lies at the core of each of us.  We are a work in progress expanding, transforming and elevating ‘the outside’ to confirm with what really lies ‘on the inside.’ Magnificence lies inside every one of us.

Externals are a shell – a barrier which unfortunately disturbs our pathway to our beautiful, special, unique core. We are heavily influenced by the Western world’s description and perception of beauty. The way we commonly define beauty blocks our ability to see our uniqueness.  The middot of kindness, compassion and transcendence are rarely considered synonymous with the term beauty.

We value ourselves based on external appearances, ignoring the famous saying, “You cannot judge a book by its cover!” This distortion crushes the loving, caring real ‘me’, the unique essence waiting to shine its countenance to the world.  Failing to acknowledge our inner G-dly spark causes our essence to remain hidden.  By continuing to spin on the whirlwind of life and glimpse solely at the surface.  But every part of our exterior is merely a holder for our unique and great beautiful core treasure – the real me!

Goodness is beautiful. Recognize your goodness – your G-dliness – and see how beautiful you really are!

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to Shaul Yehoshua Heshel ben Leah who is in need of a liver transplant.  He is type O and in need of a live donor (donors donate a part of their liver after which their remaining liver regenerates and grows back).  Please Hashem may the right messenger come to do the tremendous chesed of giving life to Shaul Yehoshua Heshel ben Leah.  Please contact me for more information.

Giving thanks is the foundation of any healthy relationship. We read in Tehillim (16:5), “Hashem m’naht chelki v’chosi (Hashem is my allotted portion and my cup).” We each are privileged to ‘partner’ with Hashem, to carry a G-dly spark and play an irreplaceable role in the existence of this world. This is the genuine answer to all who might ache with the sense of unworthiness and low self-esteem. Hashem hand-picked each and every Jewish soul of the Jewish nation; each is assigned with a precise purpose that no one else can fulfill.

Let’s take the idea of Hashem’s love and go a bit deep into the precision of how important a role we each play in this world. Imagine an apple seed planted in the ground. An apple tree grows and grows and many apples then sprout forth. Each apple makes its way from the tree, to the barn to the truck to a collecting facility to a packing facility to a distributor and to the stores. Someone then goes to the store and chooses this specific apple vs. another apple and makes a bracha. Hashem directed that apple specifically to that person. The G-dly intention of that apple was for that person and that person alone, not anyone else. The bracha is a note of gratitude to Him for thinking of creating that apple.

The amazement we feel when contemplating the love and care that went into this one apple is mind boggling. All this – just for you… her… him … and me!

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of the beautiful neshamot who were injured in last week’s horrific terror attack. May we uplift this time of unity and bring merits to Klal Yisrael by praying for their complete recovery and safety of all Jews around the world, Amen.

One of the main reasons why we get ‘burnt out’ is due to a tear in the link with the Source of life. The G-dliness within me is the contact point to the Infinite Source of life itself. If only we could tap into this eternal state, we would never be burnt out.

Let us think of doing Hashem’s will as if we are tuning into the Divine frequency on a radio that broadcasts life. I can ‘hear’ Hashem. His messages come in clearer than before. I feel like I am ‘walking with Hashem.’ In such a state, I am aligned with the path Hashem has set before me. Based on what I act and choose; Hashem reacts and guides. This is the basis of a relationship with Borei Olam. The events of my life are set to elevate my soul and bring out my fullest potential based on how I exercise my free will.

Living with such a tight bond envelops us with inner strength and carries us through the roller coaster of life. Our motive in building an unshakable relationship with Hashem should center on the desire to attain knowledge, da’at, that all is from Hashem.

All this brings to light the most powerful experience of all. We have the ability to bring Hashem’s presence into the world. A crucial role we should embrace proudly as no one else can fulfill what each and every one of us can do, in our own unique way.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated and sponsored L’iluy nishmat Rav Zev Shimshon ben Yaakov Tuvie Halevi zt”l.  May his neshama eternally rest and bask in the Divine radiance of the Shechinah HaKedosha among all of the tsaddikim who have departed from this world, Amen.

If you wish to sponsor and dedicate a daily dose of emuna, please contact us.

Emuna is the faith that all You do is good for us. That You are infinitely wiser than us, and understand better than we what we must go through in life to reveal our strengths and actualize our potentials.

Emuna helps us when we look back at the trials of our lives.

Emuna helps us deal with the past. To come to terms with the difficulties and failures, hardships and the blows, that life showers on us. It is the faith in knowing it was all for the best. That for some reason beyond our comprehension it had to be this way.

But Bitachon assists us with the present and the future. It is my uncalculated trust, the warmth all around me, right now, at this moment, because You are with me. It is the confidence that You will provide only good things for me in the future because You are the ultimate source of good.

It is jumping from the cliff, while knowing that the landing will be soft, because Your arms will be carrying me.  It is the conviction that You will chase away all of life’s monsters. That you are there with me in each and every new venture.

While Emuna confronts the pain of my past falls, Bitachon is the confidence that enables me to attempt to take that next step forward.

Today’s Daily Dose of Emuna is dedicated l’iluy nishmat Moshe Ben Esther a’h.  May his neshama bask in the Divine radiance of the Shechinah HaKedosha among all of the righteous who have departed from this world, Amen.

“Happy is the person whose help is in the G-d of Yaacov, whose trust is on HaShem, his G-d”  (Tehillim 146:5)

Imagine the feeling of joy, delight, and comfort of a small child who trusts in his parents for love, protection, and care. Hashem is our spiritual parent, and loves us without end. In fact, the Ba’al Shem Tov ztk”l said, “I wish that I could love my child as much as HaShem loves the greatest sinner in Israel.” Therefore, a person who sincerely trusts in Hashem also finds tranquility, security, and happiness.

When Yaacov went to Egypt to escape the famine, Hashem promised him, “I will be with you and I will protect you and I will bring you back.” In this light, the passuk says, “Happy is the person whose help is in the G-d of Yaacov.” That is, just as Yaacov had peace of mind because he knew that Hashem would watch over and help him, so too, whoever trusts in Hashem will be filled with happiness and calmness.

Hashem assures us with the same guarantee of protection that He promised to Yaacov Avinu. Hashem created the heavens, earth, and sea. Therefore, since He is the Master of all, He has the capability to protect a person in every location, no matter what.

A little girl walked daily to and from school. Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trip to school. As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with thunder and lightning.

The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school, and she herself feared that the electrical storm might harm her child.

Following the roar of thunder, lightning, through the sky and full of concern, the mother quickly got in her car and drove along the route to her child’s school.

As she did so, she saw her little girl walking along, but at each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up and smile. Another and another were to follow quickly, each with the little girl stopping, looking up and smiling.

Finally, the mother called over to her child and asked, “What are you doing?”

The child answered, smiling, “Hashem, just keeps taking pictures of me.”

Divine providence goes beyond what happens directly to me. Hashem’s master-plan is not limited to what directly impacts me yet extends to all events that occur in my presence.  Whatever I witness through my ears, eyes, heart or even nose is meant for me to experience, grow and learn from.  Nothing is happenstance; nothing. Although it may appear that certain occurrences have little influence on my life, nonetheless they are closely ordained by Hashem to the last minute detail.

In fact as we take a closer look into this idea we can sense that our next breath depends entirely upon Hashem.  Our existence is because He wills it so. In that case, we each ‘belong’ in this world and play a great role in the universe.  This should energize and pump us with meaning and self-worth.

The idea is to look at Divine intervention and recognize that each one of us is important.  Hashem ‘longs’ for a relationship with us and wants us to have the best life has to offer.  What is the best? Hashem Himself is the best; a bond with the source of all life.

We wake up each morning and thank Hashem for re-creating us today.  We appreciate our own existence since we understand that life is a gift.  Just because we have lived until now, Hashem is not obligated to continue to give us life.  Every moment is a gift.

No need for paranoia.  Let’s just renew our mindset on how precious a gift we are being given daily, moment by moment, to live under the watchful eye of a caring and loving Hashem.

Our lives are a reflection of the lives of our Avot and Imahot.   This week’s parsha Toldot discusses the difficulty of Rivka Imeinu in conceiving.  It is written in the Gemara Tanchuma, “Hashem desires to hear the prayers of the righteous.”

Rationale tells us that it cannot be – how is it that Hashem ‘yearns’ for us to cry out in Tefillah, out of pain and suffering? Yet, when delving further into the words of our holy Sages we come to learn that Hashem ‘longs’ for the greatness and wholesomeness of the righteous which comes as a result of their heartfelt prayers.

Our perception of life is distorted.  Our belief is that Hashem loves us only if we are gifted with all that we need. But our needs are not necessarily beneficial for us in the long term.  Here is the time once again to reiterate that our vision is limited. We are finite beings and can only see the here of this world.  As parents we know that the future is always at the forefront when we guide and care for our children.  We are always relating the impact of what we are doing today to the effect it will have on tomorrow.

Hashem ‘knows’ that we are here on a mission; to partner with our Creator and strive to reveal perfection and G-dliness in everything.  He ‘knows’ that we do not want to leave this world the same way we entered, but in an elevated more perfected state. The challenges of life bring us to look for Hashem and bond with the Only One who is truly able to help; shower us with compassion and embrace us with strength.

Thus it is this place that Hashem awaits us to arrive; to the recognition of Ein od Milvado, there is No One Else But Hashem!!  That is perfection. That is wholeness.  That is the pathway to righteousness.  That is the road every Jew must travel.  Please Hashem may it be b’rachamim, Amen.
