Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Dovid Baruch ben Chaya Tova a young man who has cancer in the late stages. May Hashem send him a complete healing refuat hanefesh v’refuat haguf among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

Lasting change can only occur if we answer ‘no’ to the following question, “Can I continue living this way?” We can achieve change in every aspect of our lives ONLY if we feel there is absolutely no way we can remain where we are.  To emphasize this point even more this feeling must be accompanied by a fiery, passionate and burning desire to change paths; “there is no way I am going to continue living like this!”

For instance if you wish to change your relationship with your spouse, are you willing to at all costs:

  • Invest a greater amount of unconditional love even if he is not receptive?
  • Express your desire to go to all lengths to bond with him?
  • Extend yourself beyond human efforts to revive this relationship?
  • Take the time to contemplate the benefits this would have on the rest of your family ~ thus motivating you to stick with your commitment to change.
  • Visualize how your life would change if you could give or do more and be more accepting?

By addressing the above you will soon determine how strong your desire is for change in any area of your life, including your relationship with Hashem Yitborach!  The answers should paint a clear picture of where you need to grow and improve to achieve that change.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Binyomin Simcha ben Adina Minya who just underwent brain surgery to have a tumor removed. May Hashem send him a complete healing refuat hanefesh v’refuat haguf among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

The coming parsha Bechukotai can be difficult to read; lined with blessings and curses. Hashem has a plan and the Jewish people are destined to live according to His will and live up to His master plan. We can rebel against it and live life feeling cheated; that is our choice. Or we can elect to live with the truthful understanding that Hashem is compassionate in all His ways and wants only good for us.

In every experience there is a message carefully packaged and addressed for us. However we need to unwrap the package with the proper approach – without anger or distrust but with a sound belief that it holds something dear and valuable for us. The difficulties surface particularly when we fail to discover the tremendous good that’s hidden within.

For example we may find ourselves thinking or saying, “My children are so selfish” or “My husband does not show love towards me”. What unseen gem could possibly be hiding in these feelings? There is a part of me that I would rather forget about namely the character trait of selfishness seen in my children and coldness displayed by my husband.

Seeing life from this mirrored perspective turns every circumstance into a training program to be a better me. In effect this is a blessing in disguise designed to help me achieve wholesome spiritual and emotional health.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of NOACH TZVI BEN GITTEL-a 14 year old boy from Lakewood very seriously injured in a bike accident. May Hashem shower him with a complete healing among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

We want to come closer to Hashem; our core being remembers how wonderful it once was to bask in the Divine radiance.  Deep in the subconscious we have full knowledge of Hashem’s existence and His eternal compassion and love for us and the Jewish people.

We should strive to remember that this luminous albeit hidden place exists. Mindfulness is the first step in seeking out this G-dly connection. Often we do not take notice and advantage of our link to Hashem.  Unfortunately this increases the way we perceive life’s challenges as we feel detached and left to battle on our own. But we are not alone.  In fact Hashem is in constant communication with us on what is going on around us and where we are heading.

Hashem is our ‘tour guide’ and ‘motivator’ directing us through life. What is required of us is a good dose of humility to realize that we can’t do anything alone; we must continually seek out Hashem’s help and advice. ‘Taking Hashem along’ with us – in our thoughts, deeds and speech uplifts and elevates us.  We are able to solve our problems with more success and less stress.  The wonderful part is that we never need to make an appointment; rather pick up the ‘phone’ and dial 1-800-ALMIGHTY.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Refoel Yosef Baruch ben Chava.  May Hashem shower him with yeshuot and nechamot, a complete healing refuat hanefesh and refuat haguf among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

We undoubtedly do not call challenges upon ourselves.  Yet when we experience hardships we are forced to face the truthful reality of existence; Ein Od Milvado, there is No One other than Hashem.  As a result of the removal of the false notions that we are in control, we are gifted with clarity of vision and now can interact with our loved ones in a more authentic way.  All relationships are strengthened when people are real and true to themselves. Many times this comes after going through difficult situations.

And although we don’t ask to be tested, we have much to gain as we can sharpen our coping skills with each successive challenge. With repetition we actually change the nerve pathway settings that are responsible for channeling our emotions.   That is why it is so imperative to practice new habits until they become second nature; essentially forming new neural conduits.  Practice what?  Practice letting go and letting Hashem run the world.  We are not privy to know exactly what Hashem’s plans are, but we can accept the events in our lives as being the best that they can be.

Hashem has only one interest; shower the Jewish people with compassion and give them many possible opportunities to earn eternal reward.  We cannot go through life alone, we need Hashem in every way, place and time.  When we seek Him, we see Him, even in the smallest details of life.  Then we truly recognize that we are never alone, He is here with us in our happiness and as well as in our sorrow and this recognition enables us to gain the most out of every experience.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Shalom Pincas Elisha ben Miriam Shaindel. May Hashem shower him with yeshuot and nechamot, a complete healing refuat hanefesh and refuat haguf among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

The foundation of so many frustrations in life stems from our conscious and many times unconscious feeling that we know better; we can re-write our lives so that it flows with greater ease. Do we live our lives as an ‘employer’ (boss mentality) or ‘employee’ (worker mentality) in this world?  There is a world of a difference in the two.

Let’s be honest.  If we assume that we know better, life will be lived as a rebellious battle against Hashem.  And we won’t win!  We are partners in this world to repair it; we do not own it.  Consequently the only pathway to inner composure and calm is to involve our ‘Partner’ in our lives.  Let us change our perception of seeing Hashem as chas v’Shalom doing things to us and view them as happening for us (not as a punishment but as a warning call saving us from harm).

A fundamental Emuna teaching is that Hashem ‘talks’ to us through the circumstance and people in our lives.  If something is not going right, we must view it as a message from our ‘Partner’ telling us that we are not on track in our ‘business’ called life. What is the business of life? Staying on track towards our soul rectification which we cannot attain unless we get Hashem involved.

Every opportunity, person and experience is here to communicate how ‘well’ we are scoring and staying on track.  Hashem has tailor designed our lives to ‘train’ us and get us to work on repairing our lives.  We have more strength to cope with the hardships than we think.   Each incident carries us one step higher on the spiritual ladder.

EMUNA – TURNAROUND TOUR – JULY 2015

DATES ARE RUNNING OUT….

Being honest and true to our feelings is the only way to attain genuine emotional and spiritual wholesomeness. This is based on the Torah teaching that Hashem’s signature is the ‘Seal of Truth’ thus coming to our inner truth attaches us in turn to Hashem.  Therefore it follows that if we are not truthful with ourselves essentially we distance ourselves from Hashem, the only source of wellness.

What are feelings?  What are emotions?  Feelings are the physical sensation of touch through either experience or perception; another words they are reactions to inner and outer stimuli.   Emotions are a person’s state of mind and instinctive responses that are not impacted by anything.  Our feelings are prone to change to fit into a given experience and environment. As a result we can easily drift away from our inner point of truth.

Who is the ‘real me’? The holy G-dly spark of Hashem within.  Therefore, as we discover our true self in turn we reveal our inner G-dliness and as we seek out Hashem we find our inner truth.  In that vein that is why when we do teshuva (which is equated to self-therapy and healing) we effectively get in touch with ourselves; as we wipe away the sins through the teshuva we remove the barriers that distort our true sense of being.

What is the process of reaching within and finding our truth?  We need to be honest with ourselves and take responsibility for our weak points and transgressions.  For example, ‘I know that I shouldn’t have done…. I need to make it a priority that I learn how to better control…’ From that truthful state we find Hashem and polish the illuminous diamond of greatness within.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the complete healing of Devorah Naomi bas Raizel.  May Hashem shower her with clarity and strength, b’riut hanefesh v’b’riut haguf among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

The media often paints a negative and unjust world. Even a person who does not tend to be a negative thinker can get drawn into this mindset.   Therefore it is of great importance to instill positivism into ourselves and belief in the goodness of the world.  We must believe that Hashem’s ultimate plan for creation is adorned with compassion and Hashem embraces each of us with His kindness.

“Sof ma’aseh b’machshavah techila (Every action is preceded by a thought)” is a famous Torah teaching sung in Lecha Dodi.  The most important part of any healing process is to first treat the mind.  The mind is the engine behind every deed. If the mind is filled with negative feelings, the body may sooner or later respond by becoming ill.  Medicine has already proven that mind and body are closely affected by one another. ‘Think good and it will be good’ is definitely a Torah axiom!

Practically speaking all thoughts find expression through speech. Therefore we can affect our thoughts by being mindful of what we say and vice versa choose the words we speak carefully since this in turn will affect the way we think.  Speaking to Hashem casts away destructive thinking patterns as this focuses our mind back to our G-dly mission.  Living a life of emuna, with a keen awareness of Hashem’s presence and intervention envelops us with confidence. We are reminded that we are important and irreplaceable.  A person’s mission is theirs and theirs alone; no one else can fulfill it.

The troubles and hardships that invade our individual and national lives are here to challenge and elevate our way of thinking.  They are meant to give us the opportunity to look ‘behind the scenes’ and recognize that it is only Hashem who is in charge.  He sends us messages through the circumstances of our lives and that which we experience. A negative mind cannot fathom or accept any good.  Unfortunately it leaves them out of touch with themselves, others and also chas v’Shalom with Hashem.

Negative Thoughts

Many of us share a spark of ratzon (desire) to make a change in one aspect or another in our lives. A fundamental stepping stone to create change in any area of our lives is to first work on our thoughts. The ideas and thoughts that most often occupy our mind space are the ones that we tend to believe and trust in the most. In other words, because they are so familiar to us we don’t tend to question them and place our trust in them. Therefore, it is essential to become keenly aware of what thoughts we entertain and give notice to.

Let’s say for example that I am accustomed to negative degrading thoughts about myself and give them space to flow freely in my mind, I am now driven to act upon that negativity. Discouraging thoughts are the greatest impediment to creating change in our lives. Yet, it doesn’t have to be this way. We cannot control the thoughts that ‘pop’ into our minds; nonetheless we can control our response and the ‘space’ we give them to stay there.

Like unwanted guests who are given a cold welcome and will think twice to return, we can do the same with negative destructive thinking patterns. The choice remains ours whether we choose to give our time and energy to these thoughts or not. It is a battle however inviting Hashem to help us defeat this negative pattern of thinking is the only way to succeed.
Speaking to Hashem, “Hashem, I can’t do this without You. I want to cherish and empower myself to make real change. Guide me… Show me what to do” WILL make a difference and bring bracha into your desire to set a renewed tone to the way you use your mind.

Giving is Beautiful!

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated l’iluy nishmat Shaindel bat Shmuel Isaac z’l.  May her neshama bask in the Divine radiance among all of the righteous souls who have departed from this world, Amen.

Giving is a beautiful thing… so is receiving… but giving is receiving.  When we give of ourselves to another we are the beneficiary of that which we gave.  Think of it as an investment in which we anticipate to get back that which we invested and a dividend in return.  Every time we give of ourselves to someone, something, somewhere, etc. we are investing in ourselves.  Not only because HaKadosh Baruch Hu repays for those acts of giving but because many times the recipient himself will want to repay for the good bestowed upon him.

Each act of giving is an act of love and therefore has in it the potential to increase the love between giver and receiver.  It reaches the point where after many times of giving, loving and giving are weaved into one and become one and the same.

Taking this thought to the level of love between Klal Yisrael and Hashem, it is everyone’s wish to enter this infinite cycle of giving to Borei Olam and being bound to Him through our giving and feeling His love to us with no end.  For the truth is that the more that we sacrifice and give of ourselves to our Tatte’, the more we will be the ultimate receivers for all things good.

Today the 4th of Iyar is the yahrtzeit of Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveichik of Brisk (1810-1892), famed talmudic scholar and author of the Beis HaLevi commentary. In 1854, Rabbi Soloveichik joined the leadership of the famed Voluzhin Yeshiva, the center of Jewish scholarship at that time. He was known for his great piety; it is said that his fear of sin was comparable to an ordinary person’s fear when his life is in danger. He became rabbi of Brisk, Lithuania, thus launching the famous Brisker rabbinic dynasty; his son was the famed Rabbi Chaim Soloveichik. (Aish.com)  May the merit of the tzaddik serve as an advocate for Klal Yisrael, Amen.

We cannot force ourselves to be optimistic, particularly if we were not raised in such a way. The way to live a life full of hopefulness is by setting goals that will excite and inject new zest into our lives. In other words, pump ourselves up by visualizing the objectives and jumping up and down with delight over how wonderful we will feel when we achieve them. Once a decision built on fiery passion is made, rest assured that you are without a doubt that much closer to the end goal than you were a second before you made that decision. In fact, the Mesilat Yesharim states that it is actually easier to do the deed than it is to decide to do it.

We have very little control over our successes and failures; ultimately it is only Hashem Who brings forth the outcome. But we are required to make the first move. Irrelevant whether we think it is ‘logical’ and makes sense that we can succeed and really change ourselves, we need to ‘partner’ with Hashem and beseech His assistance.

It cannot be repeated too many times how important it is to have a strong belief system in oneself as well as a solid Emuna relationship with Hashem. The reason it is of such great value is because the fuel feeding our engine is the positive energy we invest in meeting our goals. How strongly do we believe we can do it? If our foundation is not rock-hard, the inner conflicts and negativity will creep in and disrupt our progress.

It doesn’t matter how long you have gotten ‘used to’ living your life not believing you can realign your habits, responses and way of thinking. You don’t have to be who you were yesterday. You can be a ‘new you’.

It begins first with your unwavering desire to do so.
