Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated l’iluy nishmat the two beautiful neshama’s who were tragically killed in a car accident while on vacation in Arizona z’l. May their souls bask in the Divine radiance of the Shechinah HaKedosha and may we, Klal Yisrael, keep pleading and beseeching rachamei Shamayim for the geula shleimah b’rachamim, b’karov, Amen.

“Mi Kel Kamocha… (Who is like You Hashem…)”. We the Jewish people are so privileged to have a G-d as Hashem; Patient, Loving, Forbearing, Merciful and Forgiving. Everything is known before Hashem; The Knower of mankind’s innermost thoughts and intentions, even those we are unaware of ourselves.

With that being said Hashem is ‘aware’ that we transgress and yet He continues to shower us with life in spite of our rebelling against Him. By analogy it is compared to being hosted by friends in their clean and tidy home yet messing it up while they watch; all along not stopping us. At the exact moment of wrongdoing and acting against Hashem’s will we are still pumped with G-dly oxygen to act-out. We use the gift of life against the One Who gives us life.

The ministering angels who perform the priestly functions in Hashem’s celestial court proclaim that Hashem is “The King that allows Himself to be humiliated” (Tanya, Iggeret HaTeshuvah 7). Hashem is The Ba’al HaChesed and The Giver of life and can ‘take revenge’ on any soul yet never does.

Hashem bears the humiliation and ‘yearns’ for us to do teshuva in recognition of our wrongdoing and straying from the correct path to life. “Who is like you Hashem!!”

Choose Life

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Tova Malka bas Rivka. She needs all the prayers she can get right now. She was diagnosed in April with stage 4 breast cancer and is only 43. She has two young girls 4 and 2.  May Hashem shower her with a complete healing among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, brachamim, Amen.

As we tippy toe our way to Chodesh Elul with great trepidation of what the New Year will bring we should ponder, ‘What is being asked of us?’  ”Ubacharta ba’Chaim…(And you shall choose life …)”  We are instructed to choose life; to make a conscious decision to want to live.

Hashem Yitborach with His infinite compassion and love of the Jewish people carves both paths in full range before us.  We can clearly see the path that leads to prosperity and the roadway that heads to our own collapse, chas v’Shalom; it is our decision to make.  Hashem instructs us to ‘make the choice’ and He will ensure that we embark on the pathway of our choice.

The Heavenly ‘desire’ for us to choose correctly is so intense that our mere stirring of the heart is enough of an indication to put us on the roadway towards life.  The Nefesh Chaim, Rebbi Chaim m’Volozhin ztk’l teaches that when a Jew just contemplates doing a mitzvah, he ‘strikes’ his Heavenly rooted soul and causes Hashem to shower him immediately with strength and the ‘know how’ to go about fulfilling it.

From here we learn a great message that we need to carry with us all year long.  The only choice a Jew essentially has is to choose;”Ubacharta ba’Chaim…(And you shall choose life …)”.  This is the most important decision that each and every one of us faces at every given moment. What’s your choice?

Power of Teshuva

Today’s daily dose of emuna is sponsored and dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Chaim Doniel Baruch ben Rivkah Briendel. May Hashem shower him with a complete healing b’riut hanefesh v’b’riut haguf among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

If you wish to sponsor a daily dose of emuna lesson, please write oritriter@gmail.com.

The power of teshuva is so great, no words can describe.  The Rambam ztk’l writes that teshuva closes the gap between man and the Shechinah HaKedosha.  A person who was once distant and unprotected, under the rule of teshuva can now experience intense love and closeness to Hashem.

A Jew who involves himself in teshuva can be assured that his mitzvot find favor on high, is pumped with vitality and life force directly from Hashem’s pipeline, in short teshuva gives Hashem eternal ‘pleasure and delight’ which He then spills onto Klal Yisarel at their time of need.

Rav Yechezkel Levinstein ztk’l explains the Rambam’s words, ‘Greater is teshuva that brings man close to the Shechinah’ as is written in Hosea (14:2), “Return, O Israel, unto Hashem; for you have stumbled in your iniquity.” From here we learn that through the power of teshuva one can literally cleave to Hashem; closeness achieved at this high level is greater than can be attained through any other mitzvot.  It is compared to one who was enveloped with fog and has now moved to a place of openness and clarity.  This comes particularly as a result of the Ba’al Teshuva humbling himself. Teshuva enables him to see how great Hashem is and how much good is being poured forth onto him.

Ladies, join me and an intimate group of the Daily Dose of Emuna women in Uman in 2 weeks’ time to experience the awesome teshuva and closeness to Hashem that comes as you place your hands and head on the kevarim of such tzaddikim as Rebbe Nachman and the Holy Ba’al Shem Tov ztk’l.  Register today to secure your place. Today’s daily dose of emuna is sponsored and dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Devora bat Chava Rochel, who is suffering from an illness.  May Hashem shower her with a complete healing b’riut hanefesh v’b’riut haguf among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

If you wish to sponsor a daily dose of emuna lesson, please write oritriter@gmail.com.

It is imperative that we put into proper perspective the idea behind Hashem’s ‘desire’ to seek justice; otherwise, it maybe appear to be harsh and unfair.  The Torah teaches the genuine meaning behind Hashem’s idea of justice.  The court system in this world (somewhat ‘resembling’ the Heavenly court) was founded on the principle that it serves to deter society from breaking the law.  Therefore it needs not be viewed as a place of punishment and cruelty but as a place that encourages order and peace.

Furthermore, Hashem displays His endless love and compassion to Ahm Yisrael as He continuously gives us a ‘back door’ option before entering into a ‘court of law’ otherwise known as teshuva.  “And you, son of man, tell the house of Yisrael: ‘You say “our sins and iniquities are upon us, and because of them we are rotting away, so how can we live?”‘ Say to them, ‘As I live — the words of my Hashem/Elokim — I do not desire the death of the wicked one, but only the wicked one’s return from his way that he may live; repent, repent…'” (Yechezkel 33:10-11).

Hashem will tear up all decrees, discard of them in their entirely! And what does Hashem, the ‘Prosecutor’ ask from us that we earn such compassionate treatment? “Stretch out your hand to Me. Talk to Me, show Me that you care. Be honest and tell Me your wrongdoings. Set up an action plan outlining your intent to correct your ways. Open your heart and be willing to surrender your ‘nature’ for the purpose of spiritual elevation.  I in turn will overturn ‘nature’ for you.” Amazing, simply amazing…

Yetzer Hara… What For?

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuah shleimah of Tal Talya bat Rachel.  She is a young mother mentioned in a previous emuna email that recently gave birth and immediately fell deathly ill.  She has been diagnosed with advanced cancer and is in desperate need of our tefillot.  May Hashem send her a complete recovery among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering b’karov, b’rachamim, Amen.

To what end was the yetzer hara created?  Tanna D’vei Eliyahu writes that Hashem has 990,900 angels and endless numbers of heavenly hosts who sing and praise Him all day; so why create mankind who is subject to the challenges of the yetzer hara to get him to recognize Hashem’s exalted presence?

The greatest ‘nachat’ to Hashem is that mankind, steeped in materialism and physicality, chose to overcome his basic instincts and rise above his animalistic tendencies set by the yetzer hara in order that he recognize his greatness through the power of free will.  The base task of every Jew is to oppose his evil inclination that draws him downward to earthliness and elevate himself towards G-dliness.

Hashem Ohev mishpat … Hashem loves justice since it enables mankind to live with a keen awareness that his actions are recorded and will be accounted for.  Justice enables mankind to live consciously and responsibly, thereby encouraging him to choose wisely; good vs. evil.

A society founded without police and court enforcement cannot survive.  A world without G-dly moral guidance and supervision will undoubtedly self-destruct. One cannot partake of the pleasures of this world without recognition and due pay.  Hashem wants us to delight in His world, yet we are guests, we should not assume any ownership of anything in this world.

Along with the awesome responsibility comes great reward and self-fulfillment knowing that every thought, word and action can create entire worlds.

* Let cook for another 10 minutes or until golden brown and vegetables are soft

* Add sauce and let cook for additional 10 minutes (add in chicken or beef now if you wish)

ENJOY!!!

Spice it up with curry.  Made from the turmeric root it is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound. Research has shown that it comes to protect the brain cells, but it can also prevent the build-up of the protein, beta-amyloid, one of the hallmarks of dementia.
Nothing makes a good cook happier than creating a wonderful meal and seeing the looks of joy and contentment on the faces of those being served.  Food has consciousness; it is aware of our attitude and is affected by it.  If we cook with negativity it impacts others on a spiritual level. Cooking with joy injects the ingredients with smiley faces, which eventually is fed into those who dine on it.
The next time you make a meal, add in some more ingredients like love, gratitude and joy… with a dash of humility.  Be thankful of the various tools and machines that Hashem has brought into the world to quicken and ease up cooking today in comparison to generations past.
Serve your meals with a big sweet smile!

On the rivers of Babylon …

Today the 29th of Tammuz is the yahrzeit of Rashi HaKadosh.  May his merit protect Klal Yisrael and serve as an advocate on high, Amen.

Chazal teach us to pray with heartfelt intent that Hashem soon rebuild the Beit HaMikdash and hasten the geula.  Why does Chazal find the need to emphasize that we ask for the redemption?  Shouldn’t it be a given that every Jew pray for it to happen?  Unfortunately to many it is not at the top of their request list.

When we find ourselves in the midst of our ‘personal sorrows’ we tend to forget about anything else.  There is a Torah teaching that says, “The last of ones problems make a person forget the first of his problems.”  The current  issues at hand such as looming war, financial strain, marital strife, health and other mounting issues unfortunately take up so much of our brain space that we don’t seem to ‘remember’ the root cause of all difficulty; galut.

Many think, “How can I focus my mind on mourning Yerushalayim and the Beit HaMikdash when there are so many hardships I must cope with right now?” Yet if we delve deeply into this idea we will discover that we are experiencing the ‘symptoms’ associated with exile.  As we put our minds and hearts into praying for solutions to personal sorrows we ought to keep in mind that they are offshoots of the real pain at hand.  We are not in our ‘true place’ physically, emotionally and spiritually and therefore we are experiencing confusion and pain.

Klal Yisrael is living in a plague of darkness; restless over the present and terrified over the future.  “Al Naharot Bavel Shahm Yashavnu… (On the rivers of Babylon there we sat ….)” we sat and wondered, ‘what will be?’  “Gam Bachinu b’Zochreinu et Tzion (Also we cried when we remembered Tzion {the destruction and devastation of Tzion})”.  The Chatam Sofer ztk’l writes we were consumed by thoughts over our own devastation, yet we still remembered why they occur; the long and bitter exile and the destruction of Tzion.  So too today we must connect all pain and suffering to our exile.

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the refuel shleimah of Tal Talya bat Rivka and the newborn baby Meir Chaim Ben Tal Talya. This wonderful young woman (34), mother of three, is in critical need of our prayers right now.
She has stage IV cancer and is intensive care. We need to storm the heavens with our prayers so this decree is obliterated completely and she can go back to caring for her family.  2.5 weeks ago, she discovered the disease had riddled her intestines, after being admitted to the hospital for what they thought was dehydration. She was 28 weeks pregnant. A successful albeit complicated surgery was performed, with baby in utero, to remove the whole large intestine. 2 weeks later, the staples got undone and the infection began to swell her stomach. This infection meant an emergency C-section delivery on Sunday, July 5th, 2015. What should have been a momentous, happy celebration, was just news taken in stride, along with further reports of Tal’s critical condition. The wife is being intubated and sedated in order to flush the toxins out of her system and has not seen her new baby yet. The stomach has been left open in a sterile condition for five days now in order to allow the doctors to clean it out daily.
The baby is premature by 2 months, and is currently in NICU. He is on antibiotics and is also fighting for his life at this stage. These are horrible yissurim for a beautiful young mother to go through. She is a model citizen, and a very loving mother, and a holy Jew. Her two children at home, are being taken care of by neighbors and friends and family, while the father runs between his wife, his newborn, and hospitals, trying to find the best care for her.
Please don’t ignore this email. It is not for donations, it is not for anything other than the words that come out of your mouth. This link:http://tehilimyahad.com/mr. jsp?r=PBnJ0S7RGU is special because it tracks the amount of tehillim that is read for this one specific case. It shows how many people read, and how many donated their good deeds for the full recovery of this woman. I update Tal’s family and her husband with the incredible amount of prayers said so far (20 books finished in five days since I posted the link) and it gives him so much hope in a time of bleak darkness and constant worry, not knowing what will be with his wife.
Please take the time to say even one perek. The more the merrier. And please pass it along to just one person, but the one person who you know will read for Tal.

Bringing the Shechinah into our lives

Today’s daily dose of emuna is dedicated to the yeshua for Pinchas ben Bassya Yehudit. May Hashem shower him with all of the goodness and clarity that he needs, Amen.

The Shechinah sustains life ~ she is the soul of the world.  As we immerse ourselves in a life of Torah and mitzvot we enhance the outpouring of love between the Shechinah and HaKadosh Baruch Hu.  This in turn injects our lives with life force and revealed goodness.  It is only through Torah learning and attachment to Torah principles that we ‘bring’ the Shechinah into our lives.  HaKadosh Baruch Hu so to speak ‘”shares” the Shechinah with His beloved nation in order to comfort and guide us through this confusing world.

What can we do to make the Shechinah feel welcomed?  It is written in the Talmud, “Rabbi Yossi teaches the Shechinah dwells only in a place of wholeness and not in a place of lacking, not in a place of sadness but only in a place of happiness and joy.”Although during Bein HaMeitzrim we are to diminish our happiness and use this time to reflect on our losses; we are not instructed to remove all joy from our midst.

Joy does not require that we laugh or necessarily smile.  Genuine joy comes from living a life of purpose; connecting all instances and experiences to the ultimate reason for existence. At this time we should contemplate the unbearable pain and hardships born from this long anguish-filled exile and acknowledge that we have drifted from our true and holy essence.  We need to ‘return’ to our purpose; we need to turn-on our emuna.

Today’s daily dose of emuna lesson is dedicated to the immediate recovery and refuah shleimah of Esti Rappaport, her husband Misha and their four children who were involved in a major accident last night on Route 17 in the US.  Parents are in critical condition. May Hashem shower them among all of Klal Yisrael who are sick and suffering with a complete refuah shleimah b’karov,b’rachamim, Amen.

As we know the next two weeks are din (judgment); let us explore what we can do in honor of the Shechinah. As we go about our lives, performing mitzvot it is of great importance to focus our intent on uniting the Shechinah back to HaKadosh Baruch Hu. The mystical teachings bring down that there is a disconnection in Shamayim between the male and female aspects of Hashem which disrupts our ability to maintain peace down below.

The Shechinah is with us in exile; She watches over the Jewish people everywhere we go. Whether we are at sea or treading on desert sand, through joy and sadness, She is hovering over Ahm Yisrael sharing our pain and suffering. She ‘yearns’ to see us happy and settled once again in our homeland; the way back is adorned with sincere Torah learning and Tefillot.

By strengthening our emuna we create a great stir above and create Oneness and unity. Essentially living a life of emuna proclaims, ‘All is One and all comes from One’ (the fundamental message of the Shema Yisrael). This proclamation binds the fragmented reality and enjoins it back to its source. Here we have the opportunity to co-partner with the Shechinah and escort Her back to Her beloved.

Klal Yisrael is lost.  Mama Rachel cries over her children who have been dispersed amongst the nations and sent into exile.  We have lost our connection to our real purpose in life. Even though many have returned to the land of Israel, we are still broken hearted since so many still do not recognize the intimate bond we share with Torah and mitzvot.

Although we were lost without Eretz Yisrael; we have been found and returned as a broken nation. The tears shed by Mama Rachel are soothed by the promise (Yirmiyahu (31:15), “…v’Shavu banim l’gvulam (Her children will return to its borders)”.  The Jewish nation shall yet return to the ways of their forefathers as the RamBam ztk’l explains at the end of days we will all do teshuva; no one will be left behind.

The Shechinah is pained by her children since the entire reason for creation was to share Her light with us.  When the Jewish nation strays from Hashem’s path we cause a darkening of the entire world. The Divine light wishes to dwell in every Jewish heart and when She does not find a place in our hearts, she unfortunately is ‘forced’ into hiding causing a loss of light.

From here we see the great importance and value each of us holds in keeping a life of Torah and mitzvot. It is in our hands to ‘give strength’ to Hashem to lighten up the world with revealed goodness.  We learn this from the passukim, “Hashem oz l’Amo yiten (Hashem will give strength to His nation)” and “Tzur yiladcha teshi (Ha’azinu 32:18) (You forgot the mighty rock Who bore you; you forgot the G-d Who delivered you).”

Tzur is HaKadosh Baruch Hu who gave birth to us and anointed us to be His holy children.  When we attach ourselves to Hashem and rely on Him as a child leans on her loving parent, we essentially give Hashem the koach to shine His Divine goodness onto this world and fight off our enemies.
